As a writer, I have a theory that “fall” was first attributed to the third season because of its endless cliché, idiom and catchphrase capabilities: Falling for Fall, Fall Ball, Fall In Love, Fall Fashion, Take the Fall. (I hope these puns don’t fall flat.) Dictionary.com revealed a less alliteration- and rhyme-filled answer to my quandary. The season was originally called “harvest,” then “feallen,” then “fall of the leaf” and then finally shortened to “fall.” While this makes sense, I’m still supporting my theory (and I think Brad Pitt agrees). So here are some autumnal goodies that you should not let fall through the cracks.
